not really, that guy needs not only the batteries, but all of them. more powerful, but less electricity demanding motors, more efficient lighter solar cells, lighter bigger storage batteries.

its a great plane of the future, hopefully the solar electric plane could go as far as the Gas powerd Cessna skyhawk and maybe in 20 years from now there will be something as big as the ford tri motor electric plane. otherwise this is a great start of this plane just like the right brothers and spirit of St Louis
The interviewee is right. Battery technology is behind everything else. Its only now being researched more because its become the bottleneck factor in multiple major industries (vehicles, cell phones, computers, gaming devices, etc).
Electric motors vs gas motors is just no competition. Electric motors a lighter, more powerful, cheaper, and vastly vastly more simple. Its just the batteries that prevent them from taking over.
for a lighting strike problem it is very simple FARADAY CAGE for all electronics, and no need for heavy metal
